“Not All Heroes Wear Capes”

Rachel ComerfordBISG celebrated its Annual Industry Awards this week. The Industry Innovator Award was awarded for accessibility to a true champion, Rachel Comerford at Macmillan Learning. This award recognizes “an organization or individual who boldly re-imagines what publishing is and can be.”

Rachel has pioneered the introduction of re-vamped workflows at Macmillan Learning to deliver “Born Accessible” content for all readers, irrespective of ability.

Dave Cramer (Hachette), Rachel’s colleague on the BISG Workflow Committee, presented her with the award, honored to acknowledge her extraordinary achievements and BISG tweeted:

Not all heroes wear capes. Rachel Comerford, master of workflow, advocate for accessibility and humble champion for education culture wears a tiara that matches her own brilliance

In 2019, Benetech named Macmillan Learning its first Global Certified Accessible Publisher and in 2020 Macmillan Learning were awarded the ABC International Excellence Award for Accessibility for this achievement.

Our congratulations and enormous thanks to Rachel for all she has done for accessible publishing.
