EPUB 3.1 Advances to Proposed Specification

The IDPF Board recently approved working group recommendations to advance the EPUB 3.1 specifications to Proposed Specification status. A public review and comment period will be open through November 7th. The final step according to IDPF policies is a member vote to approve as Recommended Specifications.

Publishing Community Meeting

Took place in Lisbon, Portugal during the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) largest annual event, TPAC 2016 (Technical Plenary / Advisory Committee week). The agenda included discussions about publications on the Web, print on demand and other broader use cases for Open Web Platform technologies.

DigiCon 2016

At DigiCon 2016 (May 10-11, 2016) in Chicago, George Kerscher (Chief Innovations Officer, DAISY Consortium) shared the development of an international baseline consensus on what accessibility means and what publishers should be expected to provide. Robin Seaman described the tools and resources Benetech and the DIAGRAM Center provide to make it easy for publishers to add accessible features to their publications.

2016 EPUB Summit

The 2016 EPUB Summit in Bordeaux, France (April 7-8, 2016) covered many subjects from mobile apps to accessibility and web development.
